Case Studies

Below are individual case studies from prior commissioned projects, with accompanying videos.
You can view 3D composites on the visualisations page.

Case Study 1:
Northallerton Retirement Home.

This case study will show you how Digi Construct can be used to aid planning applications.

McCarthy & Stone design and build reitrement homes all across the UK, but when they submitted their plans for a proposed development in Northallerton, Yorkshire the plans were refused.

During the summer of 2007, Smudge Film Productions were approached by McCarthy & Stone to aid them in gaining planning permission for the recent application refusal. The reason for the refusal was that the planning commitee couldn't visualise the development. Another reason for the refusal was that the surrounding neighbourhood had concerns about shadows.

Our brief was to show the development in situe in a number of angles and produce a birdseye view of varying times of the year, with our technology we are able to pinpoint the sun with 100% accuracy and show the 'shadow path'. These Digi Constructs satisfied the commitee and surrounding residents, subsequently the application was approved.

Hambleton District Council have since endorsed 'Digi Construct'.

Current Status: Construction has begun

Case Study 2:
Sunset Apartments, Montenegro.

This case study will show how you can utilise Digi Construct as a design tool for marketing.

We were approached by Rose Developments to produce a complete 3D Digi Construct to show potential buyers exactly what their apartments will look like.

They needed us to replace their previous CAD designs and create the inside of the apartments to make it look as though a real family occupied one of the apartments, this would include a 'walk through' and interaction with the family, all set in a digital environment.

We took the plans and decided that we would show a complete 'walkthrough' of one of the six apartments. From outside all the way to the balcony along the way we would see members of the family, interior, and views of the stunning location, as well as the walkthrough we produced a few still images of the apartments rooms.

Current Status: Construction has begun.

Case Study 3:
Tectonic House, Hatfield.

This case study will show how Digi Construct can be used as a design tool.

Smudge Film Productions were approached by property developer Neil Bedford to show varying video sequences of his eco-development Tectonic House.

Neil not only wanted to see how the development would look in situe but also he had been rejected by the planning commitee on the grounds that the development would spoil the countryside as it would sit right in the middle of the green belt. We visited the site of the proposed development a started filming for the video sequences, the rest would be left to our 3D department.

Current Status: Awaiting planning approval
